LAST WEEK'S ROUND UP: Light trade developed as early as
Monday last week and came in a little bit each day. Southern
live trade had a full range of $103 to $106.50, mostly $106,
$2 lower than the prior week's weighted average. Northern
dressed trade ranged from $162 to $166, it is rather hard to
tell just where most of the trade was within this range, so
the change was roughly between $2.50 to $6.50 lower than last
week's weighted average basis Nebraska. According to
Thursday's Mandatory summary reports weekly accumulated
average price totals are as follows (the prior week's
weighted averages are listed in parentheses): KS $105.90
($107.76); NE $163.67 ($168.57); TX $106.01($108.12); IA
$164.28($168.03); CO Not available due to confidentiality,
but private sources reported sales at $105.
The Friday afternoon Mandatory reports showed weekly trade
volumes as follows: KS 18,249; NE 28,687; TX 10,590; IA
19,698; CO not available due to confidentiality. Friday's
slaughter was estimated at 103,000 head, 13,000 less than the
week before, and 6,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill was
estimated at 60,000 head, bringing the weekly total to
643,000 head, 11,000 head smaller than the prior week, but
3,000 head greater than 2019.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: The country is typically quiet this
Monday morning with both buyers and sellers busy taking
inventory. Bids and asking prices are not established as of
yet. Beef cutouts are expected to be higher with generally
light box movement.
For the week ending October 17, 2020, Imported Beef Passed for
Entry in the U.S. totaled 55,022, 148.16% of the previous week
and 133.82% of the 4-week average.
